Sponsor of inaugural Miami race to be unveiled Dec. 4
INDIANAPOLIS - The title sponsor for the inaugural Indy Racing Northern Light Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway will be unveiled Dec. 4 at a press conference in Miami Beach.
The announcement of the major corporate sponsor is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. (EST).
Before the announcement, Indy Racing standouts Eddie Cheever Jr. and Robbie Buhl will drive their Infiniti-powered Indy Racing cars on a 2.6-mile trip from Watson Island across the MacArthur Causeway to Montys Stone Crab, site of the press conference announcing the new sponsor. Cheever and Buhl are scheduled to start their journey on public roads at 12:15 p.m.
The inaugural Indy Racing event in South Florida is scheduled for April 8 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a 1.5-mile oval.

Hornish to test in West: Sam Hornish Jr. will test with his new team, Pennzoil Panther Racing, on Dec. 3-4 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Hornish, 21, was announced last month as Panthers driver for the 2001 season. He finished fourth in the Indy Racing Rookie of the Year standings in the 2000 season, driving for PDM Racing.
The 2001 Indy Racing Northern Light Series season opens March 18 on the 1-mile oval at Phoenix International Raceway.

Lazier, Cheever nominated for award: 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Series champion Buddy Lazier and 1998 Indianapolis 500 winner Eddie Cheever Jr. are among the nominees for the 2000 Auto Racing All-America team selected by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association.
Lazier and Cheever were nominated in the open-wheel category. The other nominees were CART champion Gil de Ferran, 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Montoya, and CART drivers Roberto Moreno and Adrian Fernandez.
Two drivers from each category - open-wheel racing, road racing, short-track racing, stock-car racing, drag racing and at-large - will be named to the 12-person All-America team. The team will be honored at the annual AARWBA banquet on Jan. 13, 2001 in Pomona, Calif.
