ATLANTA: Pontiac Grand Prix, which just clinched its
third-ever NASCAR Winston Cup
championship and first since 1989, can set a new modern-era standard for
itself this weekend with a victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Pontiac has recorded 11 wins so far in 2000, equaling the highest number of wins by Pontiac in a season, set in 1993.
Home Depot Grand Prix driver Tony Stewart has a series-leading six wins in 2000, Interstate Batteries Grand Prix driver Bobby Labonte won four races on his way to the Winston Cup championship, while Caterpillar Grand Prix driver Ward Burton has collected one victory.
