A total of 30 Pro Stock drivers battled in three competitive qualifying
sessions that spanned three days.
2000 NHRA Winston Pro Stock Champion Jeg Coughlin, Jr. remained the man to beat. He began the third qualifying session sitting in the No. 1 spot. He continued to show no signs of slowing down during the third session. Jeg improved by running a 6.878 at 199.67 mph and kept the No. 1 spot.
"The guys are doing a great job reading the track," said Jeg. "We have calmed the car down and it has responded well."
Troy Coughlin improved also during the third session. He ran a 6.915 at 199.37 mph and slipped down to the No. 15 position.
"We were too aggressive during the third session," explained Troy. "The car took off from the line and darted for the center line. I drove it back to the center of the groove, which hurt our ET."
The fourth and final qualifying session was canceled due to rain. Jeg will face off against Kenny Koretsky in the opening round. Troy will line up next to Bruce Allen.
