With just this Sunday's race at Homestead, Fla., and the Nov. 19 NAPA 500 at Atlanta left on the Winston Cup schedule, Mark Martin and Johnny Benson continue to battle for high spots in the point standings.
After a sixth-place result last Sunday at Phoenix, Valvoline Ford driver Martin is eighth in points. He's attempting to finish in the top six in points for the 12th consecutive season. Benson, who will drive the Valvoline sponsored and owned Valvoline Pontiac in 2001, was 16th at Phoenix and is 13th in the standings.
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF AMERICA UPDATE: Mark Martin's on-track performance in the Valvoline Ford, combined with contributions from Valvoline and NASCAR fans, has brought the current total raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters since 1999 to $536,278. Valvoline is donating $5,000 for every Winston Cup race Martin wins, $2,500 for each pole, $1,000 for a top-five finish, and $20 per lap Martin leads in this "Caring Hands" program.
