Its down to the wire for the 2000 Speedvision World
Challenge GT and Touring Car Drivers and Manufacturers Championships at
San Diego.
Jeff McMillin can clinch the Speedvision GT title over defending series Champion Bobby Archer with a third-place finish, regardless of what Archer does. McMillin enters the weekend with an eight-point lead (190-182). Its all tied-up for the Speedvision GT Manufacturers Championship between Porsche and Chevrolet heading into the final Round, meaning whoever finishes in front (in the top-six) will take the title. If neither manufacturer records a top-six to score points, Porsche wins the tie-breaker based on more season wins.
In Speedvision Touring Car, Pierre Kleinubing needs just an 11th-place finish to clinch his second-career Championship (the other coming in 1997). Neal Sapp is the only driver with a shot at the title, and currently sits 17-points behind, with 34 points available. For the Speedvision Touring Car Manufacturers Championship, Acura needs to simply finish sixth or better to clinch its third-consecutive such title. BMW can win the title with a win and a finish outside of the top-six for Acura.
