"Jon has a lot of experience working with some top-flight organizations in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, and I am counting on his experience to smooth my transition to the Busch series next year," said Foyt. Last month, Foyt, the 23-year-old son of A.J. Foyt, announced he will compete as a rookie in the 2001 Busch Series.
"I think it is a great opportunity to work with Larry who has shown a lot of potential in a very short period of time," said Wolfe. "We have some big challenges ahead of us in starting up a brand new team in a very competitive series, but I was one of the original members of the Joe Gibbs Racing team and that turned out to be a very rewarding experience. I'm confident that we'll have all of the ingredients in place to make this team successful."
Wolfe, 37, spent eight years of his 12-year professional racing career at Joe Gibbs Racing, where, as Jimmy Makar's assistant crew chief, Wolfe worked with drivers Dale Jarrett and Bobby Labonte. Wolfe's Winston Cup career gained solid footing in 1990 when he worked with Larry McReynolds at King Racing with driver Brett Bodine. Most recently, Wolfe worked as a crew chief for Butch Mock Motorsports with driver Ted Musgrave in 1999 and this year as a consultant for MB2 Motorsports with driver Ken Schrader.
Foyt's team is moving into a brand new race shop located in Mooresville this week as contractors finish up the electrical work. The team is preparing the Harrah's Racing Pontiac to test at Atlanta Motor Speedway next week for the ARCA season finale there November 18.
Foyt will soon take delivery on the first shipment of Chevrolet Monte Carlos from Dale Earnhardt Inc., which is selling its inventory from the Busch series to Foyt's team. The Foyt Racing crew will then paint the cars in Harrah's Racing distinctive purple livery. They are planning to test in December at several short tracks in Florida.
