NASCAR BGN: Tim Fedewa looks for more success in the Southwest

Southwestern Success...Tim Fedewa can't help but look forward to the yearly journey to Phoenix International Raceway. Early in his career, Fedewa ran with the then-Southwestern Touring Series at Phoenix, and he had a lot of success at the flat track. Despite last year's dismal showing, Fedewa said he is excited about the return trip to the Arizona desert.

"Phoenix is definitely my type of race track," Fedewa said. "It's a one-mile, flat oval, and I've been racing on tracks like that since I was 18-years old.

"To be honest, I'm looking forward to redeeming myself out there. We had some mechanical problems in Phoenix last year, and I really didn't give the showing that I know this Stanley team is capable of. We're coming off a strong top-five finish in Memphis, and I'm confident that we have the equipment and the ability to do the same in Phoenix."

Fedewa does have quite a track record on the one-mile, flat tracks. Three of his four Busch Series victories have come at one-mile tracks, including one at New Hampshire International Speedway this May.

Comeback Story... Fedewa returned to the No. 36 Stanley car last weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park after sitting out one race due to back injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He drove the car to a top-five finish.

"I know that I'm really lucky to even be able to climb back in the car let alone drive it to a top five," Fedewa said after the race. "It was great to be able to get back behind the wheel, but I'm a little sore today. My back aches and so do my legs, but it felt great to be racing for a win."

Fedewa admits that he isn't 100 percent yet, but he is currently doing rehabilitation with his personal trainer, which includes stretching, walking and swimming.

"I feel stronger and better everyday," he said. "I'm looking forward to finishing the year on a high note."

Name That Car...The Stanley racing machine on track this weekend is the same car that Fedewa drove to a fourth place finish at the Milwaukee Mile. After last weekend's race in Memphis, the Stanley team stayed late to make any final adjustments that the car might need before heading to Phoenix.
