LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Lee Fleming, of Lakeforest,
Calif.
captured the
pole for Saturdays Round 10 Pro Spec Racer race at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway, part of the
Grand Prix of Las Vegas Presented by enjoythedrive.com. Bobby Sak, of W.
Bloomfield, Mich.
and Warren Stilwell, of Harteville, Ohio completed the top-three.
Competing on the 2.52-mile Las Vegas road course for the first time in series history, Fleming battled changing weather conditions to capture the pole. Fleming, who has limited experience racing in wet conditions, posted the 15th quickest time during the damp morning qualifying session. During the second qualifying session on a dry track, Fleming, driving the No. 12 Champion Motorsports Spec Racer, overcame diminishing visibility to capture the pole with a quick time of 1:34.825 (85.421 mph). The pole is Flemings second of the season, after winning it at the season-opener in Phoenix.
"This session was a lot better then this morning," said Fleming. "Its going to be a tough race, but I come for one reason. To win!"
Sak, driving the No. 19 Don Sak Racing Spec Racer, captured his first career front-row start during the early evening qualifying session. Sak, who had the provisional pole after the morning qualifying session in the wet, posted a quicker time of 1:34. 883 (85.368 mph) in the second session, but fell back to second on the grid.
"I just didnt get the draft I needed to keep the pole," Sak.. "I still have a mathematical chance at the championship, but realistically know Im out of it. The goal is to close out the season with a few wins."
Driving the No. 28 Stilwell Racing Spec Racer, Stilwell posted the third fastest time in the second qualifying session, 1:34.917 (85.337 mph), to captured the third starting position. Stilwell, currently lies second in the championship, two points behind John Black.
"I actually went off the track twice at the end of session because of the darkness," said Stilwell. "The goal tomorrow is to run a clean race and to finish ahead John [Black]."
Completing the top-five was Chris Funk, of Kansas City, Mo. and John Black, Tahoe City, Calif.
