(Asheville, N.C.) - Andy Petree Racing announced today it
has named Danny Gill crew chief for driver Joe Nemechek and the No. 33
Oakwood Homes Racing team.Gill, 31, will take over for team owner and current crew chief Andy Petree. Gill will make his debut with the team at the Checker Auto Parts/Dura Lube 500 at Phoenix International Raceway next weekend.
"Our business has grown so much that Andy has decided he needs to focus more on his owner role and have a less active role with the No. 33 team," said Steve Barkdoll, vice president and general manager of APR. "This 33 team has been running very well, and we think that Danny will really be beneficial in helping us take it to the next level and into victory lane."
"Danny is a proven leader and hiring a crew chief of his caliber enables me to concentrate on our overall effort," Petree added.
Gill has been involved with racing for about 20 years, and this is his first year in the NASCAR Winston Cup series. Most recently, Gill served as crew chief for the No. 4 car and Bobby Hamilton in the Winston Cup series. He has also served as the crew chief for No. 18 truck and driver Joe Ruttman in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
"I'm really excited about the move," Gill said. "I like the concept of the two-car team, and I think that APR has the potential to be a front-runner week in and week out. They have everything here that you need to have a successful team, and I look forward to helping put them up front."
