Sessions
Memorial" USAC MCI WorldCom National Midget Car race at the Winchester
(Ind.) Speedway.Pollock earned his initial USAC triumph by outracing Tracy Hines in the 33-lap main event after passing Ryan Newman for the lead on the 18th lap in his Pollock Motorsports Esslinger/Drinan. Hines finished second ahead of Dane Carter, Jay Drake and Michael Lewis.
Newman, who set a new 1-lap track qualifying record of 123.313 mph, led eight laps before yielding to Pollock, then failed to finish the race due to mechanical problems.
Newman, Dave Darland and Lewis won heats, while Clay Klepper, who led the first six laps of the feature, won the semi.
Kasey Kahne, the National Midget point leader, finished 10th in Sunday's race and looks forward to the season-ending events at Bakersfield and Irwindale, Calif. November 18 and 23. He has a sizeable point lead over Drake.
