HARRISBURG, N.C. --- Phillips Petroleum Company and
Cicci-Welliver Racing
announced today that veteran driver Tim Fedewa will drive the No. 66
Phillips 66 Chevrolet Monte Carlo during the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series,
Grand
National Division season. This announcement comes on the heels of driver
Todd Bodine's departure from the team to pursue a NASCAR Winston Cup
career.
Fedewa has been a staple of the NASCAR Busch Series since making his
series
debut in 1992."Phillips 66 is thrilled that Tim Fedewa will be driving for our Busch team in 2001," said Bob Pomeroy, director of sponsorship for Phillips 66. "We've had the pleasure of knowing Tim for the past four years. We believe Tim will continue having the same success in our car as Todd (Bodine) has had the past two seasons.
"Phillips has been blessed in having professional drivers represent our company during the past four years and we are confident Tim will continue with this representation both on and off the track. We are eager for our marketers and dealers to meet Tim and to cheer him on throughout the 2001 season."
"I am excited and privileged to have the opportunity to drive for a company like Phillips 66," Fedewa said. "They have been a good sponsor in the Busch Series for quite a while. They're a good sponsor and a great company. I am looking forward to being a part of the Phillips 66 racing team."
Fedewa's first full season of competition in the NASCAR Busch Series was in 1993. In his nine-year career Fedewa has four wins and four poles. The Holt, Mich. - native spent the last two NASCAR Busch Series seasons driving the No. 36 entry also fielded by Cicci-Welliver Racing.
"I think he is a very focused racecar driver," said Frank Cicci, co-owner of Cicci-Welliver Racing. "He scored a win and a pole this year and I think he's capable of winning more races. We're going to keep the Phillips 66 team in tact and we look to have equal or better performance than we had this year."
The 2001 NASCAR Busch Series season will mark the fifth year of competition in the series for Phillips 66.
