HICKORY, N.C. -- After thorough evaluation and discussion, PPI Motorsports and Brad Parrott, crew chief for the No. 32 Tide Ford in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, have mutually agreed to part ways. Parrott has elected to pursue other opportunities outside of PPI Motorsports.
PPI Motorsports has named Scott Houston, who served as the interim crew chief on the No. 32 Tide Ford this past weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway, to the position full-time effective today.
"Brad has made a number of substantial contributions to the team, and we would have liked to retain him in a consulting capacity for our two-car program," said team owner Cal Wells III. "Ultimately, our plans for the roles and responsibilities of a crew chief on this team did not quite fit together. With his ability and motivation, I know Brad will find a better fit with another program and we wish him all the best."
Houston, 35, of Hickory, N.C., has worked as an engineering liaison for PPI Motorsports for the past year. In August, Houston also served as crew chief for PPIM's McDonald's Busch series effort with driver Chad Little at Michigan Speedway, where the team qualified 11th and finished 10th - their best Busch series performance to date.
Brother to newly announced PPIM/McDonald's Winston Cup driver Andy Houston and son of legendary NASCAR Busch Series competitor Tommy Houston, Scott grew up working on stock cars and served as crew chief on his father's successful Busch series efforts for eleven years (1983 - 1994). Houston resides in Mooresville, N.C., with wife Amy and two children: son Henry (1) and newborn daughter Bridget (10/5/00).
