Troy Coughlin and his Jegs Mail Order Olds Cutlass was the first of the
teams
cars to take on the track. When Troy left the starting line the car
hesitated and then took off. He ran a 7.033 at 195.73 mph and ended up in
the No. 13 position."We were looking for a stronger run out of the trailer," commented Troy. "My car hesitated when it left the line and that really hurt the number that went up on the board."
NHRA Pro Stock points leader Jeg Coughlin, Jr. took on the left lane behind his brother Troy during the opening qualifying session. Jeg was hurt by a sub-pair 60-foot time, he quickly made it up. He ran a 6.991 at 196.44 mph and moved up to the No. 3 slot.
"We have plenty left in this Jegs machine," stated Jeg. "We gained a lot of valuable data on our first run that will help us throughout the weekend."
Troy improved during the second session by running a 6.981 at 196.77 mph. He moved up to the No. 12 position.
"The car felt much better and responded better to the set up during the second session," said Troy. "We are on track to see additional improvements tomorrow."
Jeg followed in his older brothers foot steps by improving as well. He rocketed off of the starting line and headed straight down the middle of the groove to the finish line. Jeg ran a 6.922 at 197.39 mph and took over the top spot.
"That run felt solid the minute I let the clutch out. The guys did a great job ready the track," commented Jeg. "We are on track and feels good!"
