ATLANTA, Ga.--The Speedvision World Challenge has announced its 2001 schedule for the Speedvision Touring Car and Speedvision GT Championships.
The 12th season of World Challenge competition will kick off at Texas Motor Speedway with the second annual Grand Prix of Texas with the American Le Mans Series March 2-4. The series travel to Sebring, Fla. two weeks later with the ALMS for the 49th annual Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring, March 15-18. The Sebring weekend will be the first-ever appearance for the World Challenge on the famed circuit.
After having the month of April off, the Speedvision World Challenge heads north of the border for its 11th appearance on the Mosport International Raceway Victoria Day Weekend, May 18-20. For the ninth-straight year, the series will appear on the May 25-28 Memorial Day Dodge Dealers Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park in conjunction with the Grand-American Road Racing Association.
For the first time since 1978, SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned series will return to Le Circuit Mont Tremblant, St. Jovite, Quebec for the re-opening of the circuit July 6-8. The circuit, dormant for the last 10 years, will have gone through a complete two-year reconstruction by racetime.
July 20-22 brings the series to Sears Point Raceway for the second-straight season in conjunction with the ALMS, followed by the second-annual San Diego Grand Prix July 27-29.
The series make their first appearances at Portland International Raceway August 3-5 with the ALMS, followed one month later with the Sports Car Championships at Laguna Seca Raceway, September 7-9.
Le Petit Le Mans moves one week later at Road Atlanta, with the ALMS-headlined weekend taking place October 4-6, followed October 19-21 with the season finale at the Lowes Motor Speedway at Charlotte.
Subject to change, 11 dates make up the 2001 Speedvision World Challenge schedule, with the possibility of splitting the two series (Speedvision GT and Speedvision Touring Car) for two of the weekends to bring each series race total to 10.
