TRACKS: Final Modified and Super Stock points race to be at Bloomington September 15

Only $8 for Grandstand Admission

(Bloomington, Ind.) Will Tom Busch score the "Hat Trick" at Bloomington Speedway this season? He won the AMSA Mini Sprint feature on June 2 and came back on June 30 and won again. He has to be considered the favorite going into the September 15 competition.

While Busch won both features, Larry Bland finished second both nights. He can be depended upon to give Busch a lot of competition. Of course, as these cars are so evenly matched, anyone can win. The favorites can be expected to get strong competition from Eric Edwards, the Brettnacher's and a whole host of other competitors.

These mini sprints are powered by 1200 c.c. motorcycle engines and are equipped with top and nose wings for better traction. Much like their big brothers, the World of Outlaws winged sprint cars, these little cars can dart through traffic with confidence. Brute horsepower can get a car into a big lead; however, when the leaders reach lapped traffic the tables can be turned. A car with a lot of horsepower can be beaten by a car with better handling and/or a better driver. Whatever happens, an entertaining race can be expected.

O'NEAL WOOD PRODUCTS OPEN WHEEL MODIFIEDS

Adam Sasser will go into September 15 competition with only a scant 10 point lead over John DeMoss; and Lee Hobbs is only eight points further back in the O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modified points race competition. Any of these guys are a threat to dominate competition. And, if their domination is complete enough, they can win the championship. However, the wild card in this is Kerry Norris. Norris isn't a factor in the points race; because he has missed some points races. However, he is always a threat to win at Bloomington Speedway. He probably knows Mike Miles' well manicured oval better than anybody currently in competition here.

Another factor in Norris' favor is his third place finish last time out. This means that he won't be hampered by having to start tenth. He will be pulling out all of the stops to make and win the dash in preliminary action. Why? He wants the best possible finish in the dash in order to put himself in position to accept the Antique Auto and Race Car Museum Gambler's Choice challenge. Norris is the only driver all season to come from the tail to win a feature event. For this reason, he has to be the favorite to win the extra $1500.

Lee Hobbs is in a position to pull off a pretty spectacular feat as well. He has an outside chance to win two track championships in the same season. Hobbs has a strong lead in the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks class; and he is running third in O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modified class. Of course Sasser, DeMoss, and Norris are all determined that he won't be successful in this quest.

TIRE & WHEEL CENTER SUPER STOCKS

The points spread in the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock class is much wider than in the O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modified class; but that doesn't mean that the competition will be any less intense. These tough competitors always want to win; and they want to have momentum going into the 5th Annual Indiana Super Stock & UMP Modified Nationals.

Lee Hobbs, Greg Kendall, and Greg O'Neill are the points leaders and are obviously the favorites to win; however, there are literally dozens of other drivers who could, on the right night, win.

Grandstand admission for this special even is only $8 and pit admission is $20. Overnight camping is permitted as are coolers. No Glass Please.
