INDIANAPOLIS- Indy Racing Northern Light Series standout Scott Sharp will put the power and speed of his race car on display this weekend before thousands of NASCAR Winston Cup Series fans with demonstration runs Sept. 9 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

Sharps laps at Richmond will coincide with the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race the same evening at RIR. The Indy Racing Northern Light Series will race on the -mile, D-shaped oval at RIR for the first time on June 30, 2001.

"Its going to be great," Sharp said. "The Richmond track will be a great venue for us. It will add a different dimension for us than the 1-mile and 1 -mile ovals that we have now. It will provide some really tight, close racing."

Sharp, who has one victory this season, will practice from 9:30-10 a.m. (EDT) and then turn hot laps in his Delphi Automotive Systems/WorldCom Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone from 3-3:30 p.m. He then will lead a parade lap in front of packed grandstands at 6:30 p.m., shortly before the 43 cars in the NASCAR Winston Cup field enter the track.

"They have a great turnout of fans for the Winston Cup race at Richmond," Sharp said. For them to get the chance to hear our car, see our car and see the speed we can carry around the track, that will be really good. Well probably set a new track record in the first 10 laps."

A Delphi Automotive Systems/WorldCom race car also will be on display at the tracks midway area throughout the entire race weekend.

1996 Indy Racing co-champion Sharp is sixth in the Northern Light Cup point standings this season. He won the Casino Magic 500 in June at Texas Motor Speedway by .059 of a second over runner-up Robby McGehee, the closest finish in series history.
