Timothy Barber, an 18-year-old from San Francisco, Calif., captured the Russell/USAC Triple Crown Pro Series Championship presented by Yokohama by winning Saturday afternoon's 18-lap series finale at the Thunderhill Raceway Park road course in Willows, Calif.
Barber's "pole-to-checker" award for leading all 18 laps boosted his prize winnings to $4,300 plus a ride in the United States Formula 2000 race at Road Atlanta later this month and a $10,000 cash bonus for winning the championship.
Cory Turner, Camillo Zurcher, Nathan Smith and Jeff Oppenheim rounded out the "top-five" in the race on the 3-mile course. Barber also posted the fastest lap of the race as all 10 starters were running at the checkered flag.
Barber will be among champions honored by USAC at the National Awards Banquet in Indianapolis January 5.
