Flashes of Greatness...Tim Fedewa credits capturing the pole at
Darlington Raceway in the spring of 1995 as sparking his eight-year career
in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division. It was Fedewa's first
career pole and his first flash of greatness on the Busch circuit.
"I had had some good runs, but until I won that pole I was kind of just waiting for something to happen," Fedewa said. "When I turned the quickest lap on that day, that's when I knew that without a doubt I could compete in this series. I think capturing that pole position is really what gave me the confidence that maybe I was lacking."
Shot of Confidence... Fedewa came to Darlington in the spring in need of a strong finish and a confidence boost. Despite transmission problems, the Stanley team finished in 11th place.
"We had really been having a rough season when we came to Darlington, and I think that everyone was feeling the pressure," Fedewa said. "I knew that this Stanley team was a good team, and we wanted to prove that we were a team that could overcome bad luck and adversity and compete. That 11th place finish wasn't a top 10, but it was exactly the jolt that we needed."
Taming the Track ...The Stanley team hopes that the No. 36 unloaded this week will be successful in taming "the track too tough to tame." The car Fedewa will compete with this weekend is the same car that he finished 11th with at Darlington in the spring.
"This car proved to be really strong this spring," Fedewa said. "I just needed a couple of more laps, and we would have had a top-10 finish. This time around, we definitely plan on having Stanley sitting in the top 10."
