MIDGETS AT BAKERSFIELD SUNDAY
Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif., J.J. Ercse of Bellflower, Calif. and Danny Ebberts of Canyon Lake, Calif. will try to protect leads in their respective USAC racing series this weekend in races at Tucson, Ariz. and Bakersfield, Calif.
Hunt is actually tied with Todd Ellison of West Jordan, Utah going into Saturday night's competition at Tucson Raceway Park. A 40-lap feature is planned on the 3/8-mile paved oval. Indy Racing Northern Light Series competitor Davey Hamilton is currently third in the standings.
Saturday night's "doubleheader" at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway features competition in both the MCI WorldCom Midget Car and TQ Midget Car Series, with a 20-lap TQ and 30-lap Midget Car feature on tap on the 1/3-mile dirt oval.
Greg Edenholm won Saturday night's 20-lap TQ Midget Car race at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway, leading all 20 laps to beat Ercse, Walt Johnson, West Evans and Todd Hunsaker. Ercse holds a 34-point lead over Johnson going into the Bakersfield race.
Ebberts is a mere 10 points in front of Bobby Boone and 46 in front of Wally Pankratz going into the Bakersfield Midget Car program.
