Friday's Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway marks David Green's 200th career Busch Series start and no one is more surprised than him. The 1994 Busch Series champion becomes the 24th driver to reach the elite benchmark. Ten drivers with more than 200 starts are still active in the Busch Series (Elton Sawyer, Phil Parsons, Todd Bodine, Randy LaJoie, Tim Fedewa, Jason Keller, Mike McLaughlin, Hermie Sadler, Mark Martin and Jeff Burton).

"When I was told that I was reaching 200 starts I was shocked," said Green, driver of the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "I never kept track of my starts. I pay more attention to wins."

The Owensboro, Kentucky native is in the midst of a storied Busch Series career. He made his debut at Hickory Motor Speedway on July 22, 1989. Two years later, in the first race of his rookie season and his fourth series start, Green grabbed his first pole. Ten races later, in his 12th start, he captured his first win.

The 1994 Busch Series season has proved to be Green's best to date. He earned nine poles, one win (Bristol Motor Speedway), 10 top five and 14 top 10 finishes, set four track qualifying records and captured the NASCAR Busch Series Championship.

By the time Green made his 100th start on June 3, 1995 at Dover Downs International Speedway, he already had 14 poles, three wins and the championship to his credit.

After joining the Winston Cup Series in 1997, Green returned to Busch Series action in 1998 and 1999 with limited schedules and full-time this season. In 2000, he's scored two top five and seven top 10 finishes thus far.

In 199 career Busch Series starts, Green has a total of 19 poles (fourth on the all-time list), five wins, 49 top five and 86 top 10 finishes, earning a total of $2,418,638.

Adding to the excitement, Green's 200th start is being made in his sponsor's backyard. Bristol Motor Speedway is located 26 miles from AFG Glass' corporate headquarters in Kingsport, Tennessee.

"The coolest part about this whole thing is that it is happening in AFG's backyard," said Green. "I think the stars are lining up for us this weekend. We tested well there last week, it's AFG's home and it's my 200th start. I think it is going to be a great weekend."
