CORR: Millen and Kincaid marth to victory at opening round of Bark River event

BARK RIVER, Wis., - Although their tactics were different, Rod Millen and Jeff Kincaid both brought their Toyota trucks home to victory in the opening round of the Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) U.P. Off Road 100 in Bark River, Mich., today.

Millen, from Newport Beach, Calif., got a quick jump in the "land rush" start (all trucks in one side-by-side line) and was third at the critical first turn. He patiently closed in on the leaders and took the top position from Scott Douglas on lap six. Millen's victory in his four-wheel-drive Toyota Tundra, his fourth in the last six races, places him second overall in the CORR Pro-4 class (full-size four-wheel drive), just 11 points from the top.

"The Tundra ran great and was a lot of fun to race today," Millen commented from the winners circle. "The team did a great job in making a couple of changes after morning practice, which really helped in handling the soft conditions on the track."

Kincaid, a resident of nearby Argonne, Wis., parlayed an amazing jump at the start and lead wire to wire in earning his sixth victory of the season in his Toyota Tacoma. He is on top of the Pro-Lite class standings with a 19-point lead over fellow Toyota Tacoma racer Chris Brandt, who finished fourth today. Tacoma's swept the top-four as Mark Krueger, of Green Bay, Wis., finished second and Jason DeGrave, a local driver from Bark River, was third. Krueger's finish puts him third overall in the Pro-Lite class.

"We hit a little wall there for a couple of races, but were definitely back now," said Kincaid in referring to a recent three-race winless streak after winning the first five of the season.

Johnny Greaves, another local competitor from DePere, Wis., followed the lead of his Forest County Potawatomi teammate Kincaid in grabbing an early lead in his Pro-2 class Toyota Tundra (full-size, two-wheel-drive trucks). Greaves battled with class leader Evan Evans for three laps before an electrical problem caused him to pull off course. Greaves got the truck restarted and finished sixth.

Round 10 from the CORR U.P. Off Road 100 will run Sunday, Aug. 13. Today's race will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Sept. 10, while the Round 10 race will be broadcast on Sept. 16.
