Gil de Ferran is on the provisional pole with a track-record time of 1:05.347 (124.394 mph).

Practice resumes Saturday morning with final qualifying set for 1:45 p.m. EDT.

TONY KANAAN

"It was a very frustrating way to start the weekend. We got in just 14 laps (in practice) this morning, and that wasnt enough to get us ready for the qualifying session. We have some sort of problem we cant quite put our finger on. Thats what makes it frustrating, because when you have a problem and know what it is, you can at least go back to the garage and fix it. We just couldnt get any momentum going, either in practice or in qualifying. But tomorrows another day and thats whats good about these road courses. Fortunately, we have till tomorrow to locate the problem, deal with it, and hopefully move ourselves up in the order."
