Pendleton, IN - Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids (IA) has the distinction of being the only paved oval in the entire Hawkeye State and ASA has visited the oval continually since 1994. In each event held at the .50-mile oval, the fans have been treated to some of the best racing they experience all year long, but one race has stuck in their minds.

ASA ACDelco Series veterans Scott Hansen and Mike Miller along with then rookie sensation Steve Carlson combined for a phenomenal ending to the Pontiac Excitement 300 on September 19, 1997. Hansen nosed out Carlson and Miller to capture the victory in the 19th event of the 20-race tour.

At the checkers, the three cars crossed in almost a dead heat, with Hansen edging out Carlson by .028 seconds with Miller coming home in third position.

In the most recent event at Hawkeye Downs, Mike Garvey, in the Tecumseh/LaFavre Racing Teams Chevrolet, dominated the WorldBestBuy.com 250 in the seventh event of the 2000 season. He paced the field for a total of 237 laps and recorded his initial victory of the season. Rookie Joey Clanton, Tristan Dupuis, Jack Landis and Miller were the top-five finishers.

The ASA ACDelco Series will make its final visit of the season to Iowa on Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12 with practice beginning at 10 a.m. (Central) on Saturday. ASA qualifications take place at 3 p.m. and the 100-lap qualifier race will take the green at 7.

On Saturday, ASA on-track fan autograph session is set for noon. The Iowa 250 will go green at 2 p.m. Reserved tickets are $25 and general admission are $20. Kids 12 and under are free. The race will be telecast live on TNN Sports at 2 p.m. (Central).
