USAC/F2000: Lacy claims first F2 pole and victory at Mosport

Ian Lacy of North Las Vegas, Nev., USAC's 1997 Russell Pro Triple Crown Champion, scored his first United States Formula 2000 National Championship victory in Saturday's 20-lap contest at the 2.459-mile Mosport International Raceway near Toronto, Canada.

Lacy earned his first career pole with a lap at 109.162 mph in his WorldBestBuy.com Van Diemen Ford on Friday, then led every lap of Saturday's race to beat James Hanson, series point leader Aaron Justus, Marc-Antoine Camirand and Andy Lally to the checkered flag. The win boosted Lacy to third in the series points going into races August 26 & 27 at Watkins Glen, N.Y.

Lally, of Northport, N.Y. claimed the ACC class title with his fifth-place finish. Lacy's victory margin was less than a second over Camirand, who trails Justus by 39 points in the new series rankings. Lacy averaged 93.488 mph for the 20-lap (49.18-mile) distance.
