GREEN BOTHER'S INAUGURAL GOLF TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS: The inaugural Green Brothers Celebrity Golf Tournament, held at the Summit Country Club in Owensboro, Kentucky on Tuesday, August 1, was a tremendous success. The event, hosted by the three racing Green brothers, David, Mark and Jeff, included a golf tournament, memorabilia auction and dinner. The event raised in excess of $75,000 to benefit Muscular Dystrophy, the Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History, the Owensboro Motorsports Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Busch Series Ladies Association and other local charities.
"Things turned out better than we could have imagined," said David, driver of the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Busch Series. "We all had a great time and I'm glad we could help all these people out and bring in some money for them."
The golf tournament featured some of racing's most famous faces including, Darrell Waltrip, Matt Kenseth, Jason Keller, Randy LaJoie, Jason Schuler, Wayne Grubb, Randy Tolsma, and MRN announcer, Alan Bestwick. Also in attendance were Roger Lee, Tommy and Nicky Hayden, three AMA motorcycle racers from Owensboro.
The highest dollar single item at the auction was a uniform from NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. which sold for $7,000. Some other of the larger items included were a uniform worn by NASCAR Winston Cup Series standout Steve Park, a guitar signed by country music star Steve Wariner, a Nestl NesQuik hood from Jeff Green's Busch Series car and footballs signed by NFL greats Joe Gibbs and Brett Farve.
AFGGLASS.COM TO BE FEATURED ON AFG GLASS CAR FOR KROGER 200: The No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo will be sporting the AFG Glass corporate colors on the entire race car for Friday's Kroger 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. In addition to the AFG Glass logo portrayed on the hood and rear quarter panels of the Chevrolet, the company's new website, AFGglass.com, will be displayed on the TV panel.
COUNTDOWN TO 200: David Green, driver of the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo, is making his 198th career NASCAR Busch Series start in Friday's Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park, moving him to within two starts of 200. The 1994 Busch Series Champion's 200th start is slated for the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 25.
Green will become the 24th driver to reach the elite benchmark. Ten drivers with more than 200 starts are still active in the Busch Series (Elton Sawyer, Phil Parsons, Todd Bodine, Randy LaJoie, Tim Fedewa, Jason Keller, Mike McLaughlin, Hermie Sadler, Mark Martin and Jeff Burton).
Bristol has been a solid track for Green throughout his career. In 13 Busch Series starts, he has racked up nine top 10 starts and eight top 10 finishes including one win. Green is also the top Busch Series money winner at the 0.533 mile track with $159,747.
Adding to the excitement, Green's 200th start will be made in his sponsor's backyard. Bristol Motor Speedway is located 26 miles from AFG Glass' corporate headquarters in Kingsport, Tennessee.
