"IRP is one of my favorites and has been a
favorite of mine since the first time we raced there. The preferred line
is
up high right against the wall almost like Darlington, which at times can
make it difficult to pass."--Buckshot Jones, driver of the No. 00 Cheez-It Chevrolet
Two Years Ago
* Buckshot scored his last Busch Series pole at Indianapolis Raceway Park in July 1998. He claimed his only other career pole at Rockingham in October 1996.
"Qualifying is crucial at IRP," Jones said. "If you don't start up front you may get stuck having to put on two tires instead of four during pit stops just to gain track position."
Not Once, But Twice
* During last year's Kroger 200 at IRP, Jones was involved in an early race accident which the team was able to overcome and fix. Some late race pit strategy moved Buckshot into 7th with 25 laps to go before some of the leaders lost control in front of Jones. For the second time that night, Jones was caught up in the action. This time the damage was too extensive and Jones was forced to retire from the race on lap 176.
