FT. DODGE, Iowa. - Rod Millen continued his push for the
Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) four-wheel-drive championship by
winning
the first round of the Midwest Off-Road Championships in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.
The
victory, Millen's third of the year, puts him in third place overall (17
points
out of first) in the Pro-4 class (full-size four-wheel drive) standings.
"The Toyota Tundra is running extremely well," commented Millen, a Newport Beach, Calif., resident originally from New Zealand. "Our team has developed a very competitive race truck."
Local racer Chris Brandt celebrated his homecoming to Iowa with a Pro-Lite class (two-wheel drive small trucks) victory in the first round at Ft. Dodge. A resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Brandt drove his Toyota Tacoma past series leader and fellow Tacoma racer Jeff Kincaid. With five wins in eight rounds thus far, Kincaid maintains an 11-point lead over Brandt in the overall Pro-Lite standings.
Johnny Greaves, the all-time CORR victory leader with 21 wins, continued to develop his new Pro-2 (full-size two-wheel drive) Toyota Tundra with a strong but unfortunate run. Greaves ran in the lead throughout the weekend but was struck with mechanical problems. After 8 of 18 rounds, he is eighth in Pro-2 points this year after winning the last three CORR Pro-Lite championships in a Toyota Tacoma.
Round 7 from the CORR Midwest Off-Road Championships will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Aug. 26, while the Round 8 race will be broadcast on Aug. 27.
