INDIANAPOLIS - Brickyard 400 fans are encouraged to
leave home earlier this year to come to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
for
both qualification days and Race Day.Planning to leave an hour earlier than normal is a good idea, no matter from which direction you approach the track, according to Speedway officials.
Fans are urged to follow the directions of law enforcement personnel who will direct traffic onto the best and fastest routes to Speedway parking. Adequate parking is available in the Speedways satellite parking lots, including Lot 1, which is immediately adjacent to the northwest corner of the Speedway at 25th Street and Georgetown Road. Other lots are available on along Georgetown Road and along 16th Street. In addition, parking is available at private residences in the Town of Speedway, usually for a fee. On Race Day, fans are encouraged to travel the IndyGo public transit services, which leave from the Airport and downtown Indianapolis on a regular basis. More information can be obtained by calling IndyGo at (317) 635-2100 or 635-3344, or on the IndyGo Web site, www.indygo.net.
Due to construction in the Indianapolis area, some routes that fans normally take to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be closed during the Brickyard 400.
An overview of the construction and alternative routes:
At the Interstate 65-38th Street interchange, the northbound entrance ramp from westbound 38th Street is closed. Remaining open are the northbound I-65 exit to westbound 38th Street, and the southbound I-65 entrance and exit ramps to eastbound 38th Street.
Eastbound 38th Street is closed to traffic east of Kessler Boulevard for bridge replacement. Eastbound 38th Street traffic will be detoured via Kessler Boulevard to eastbound 30th Street to northbound Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
Cold Springs Road is closed to traffic for bridge replacement. That traffic will be detoured via 29th Street and 30th Street to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street to westbound 38th Street.
Westbound 38th Street traffic destined for northbound I-65 will be detoured via northbound Lafayette Road to 71st Street.
At the I-65/Lafayette Road interchange, the northbound I-65 exit and entrance ramps to Lafayette Road is closed, as is the southbound I-65 entrance ramp from Lafayette Road. But the southbound I-65 exit ramp to Lafayette Road remains open. Lafayette Road traffic will be detoured via 29th Street and 30th Street to Lafayette Road.
At the I-65/I-465 interchange, the I-65 entrance loop from southbound I-465 is closed. The northbound I-65 exit ramp to northbound I-465 remains open. Northbound I-65 traffic is being crossed over to the northbound I-65 lanes north of the I-465 bridge. Southbound I-465 traffic destined for southbound I-65 will be detoured via southbound I-465 to Eastbound I-70.
When fans arrive at the track on Thursday, Aug. 3 or Friday, Aug. 4, there is limited parking available inside the track. All vehicles must enter Gate 2 heading westbound off 16th Street to park in the infield.
Each person in the vehicle will pay gate admission for that day. Thursday gate admission for practice and first-round qualifying is $10. Friday gate admission is for second-round qualifying and the IROC race is $25.
For Race Day, Saturday, Aug. 5, limited parking will be available inside of Turn 3, and each person in the vehicle must have a Race Day ticket. There will be no general admission tickets sold. Again, all vehicles must enter Gate 2 heading westbound off 16th Street in order to park in the infield.
Three other parking lots on the Speedway grounds will be available to fans from Aug. 3-5. These include Lot 3 (Brickyard Plaza) on 16th Street, and Lots 1 and 2 on Georgetown Road. Parking is $20 per vehicle.
