* Saturday's Carquest Auto Parts 250 marks David Green's 197th NASCAR
Busch
Series start. The Owensboro, Kentucky native is scheduled to make his
200th
start in Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 26.
* David Green is currently ninth in the NASCAR Busch Series point standings, six points out of eighth position.
It's a Family Affair for David Green: For David Green, driver of the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Busch Series, this upcoming week could be dubbed the Green Family Tour. Following Saturday's Carquest Auto Parts 250, the 1994 series champion will be returning to his roots with a vacation in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky. Along with his wife, Diane and daughter, Kaylie, Green will spend time visiting his parents and grandparents, who all still reside in the quaint Kentucky town.
Green considers the 1.25 mile Gateway International Raceway one of his home tracks due to its close proximity - just over 200 miles - to Owensboro.
"Gateway is pretty close to home," said Green. "It's only about three or four hours by car and close enough to allow the whole family to come. It's always more special when your family can be there too."
To add excitement to an already electrified weekend, Saturday's race marks the 50th start for all three Green brothers in Busch Series competition, a feat never before accomplished in series history. David, the oldest, Mark, the middle brother, who drives the No. 63 car and Jeff, pilot of the No. 10 car, the youngest brother, have been competing in the Busch Series for many years, however, the 2000 season marks the first year where all three brothers have competed full-time together.
"This makes three weeks in a row we have made Green history," said Green. "Nazareth, where Jeff and I started first and second. Pikes Peak, where Jeff and I finished one-two. Now 50 starts for all three us together in Gateway. Maybe we can score another Green family first with all three brothers finishing one-two-three."
After a vacation with the family in Owensboro, Green returns to work in time for the August 4 running of the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park, another track near within a four hour drive from his home town.
"These couple of weeks are great because it gives my family and me a chance to visit with each another," said Green. "With a job like this, traveling so much, it is hard to get time to spend with anyone. Having these races so close to home allows us the chance to do that."
