SALEM, Ind.--Ohios Robbie Pyle captured his first career
ASA ACDelco Series pole position for Saturdays Tecumseh 300 at Salem
(Ind.) Speedway. In addition to the pole award, Pyle, who sits third in
rookie points, will pick up an additional $1,500 from race sponsor
Tecumseh. Pyles fastest lap on the .540-mile high-banked oval was 17.044
seconds (114.058 mph).
"I wasnt counting on the pole position until the last car went out," Pyle said. "Right now, I am just worried about racing good. It felt good to back up our practice time. I wasnt looking to grab the pole, just turn a fast lap."
Scott Hansen of Green Bay, WI, will start on the outside of the front row, posting a time of 17.118 seconds in the Structural Transport Ford. It matches Hansens best qualifying effort of the season with the other coming at I-70 Speedway in Missouri, a track very similar to Salem.
Last weeks race winner Mike Garvey, of Minnesota, qualified third with a time of 17.120 sec. Starting outside of Garvey will be veteran Rick Beebe, who was quick in practice all morning. Beebes lap of 17.142 will be his best starting position of the year.
Several Indiana drivers made the show in first round including Indianapoliss Russ Tuttle (11th), Matt Hagans (12th) and Tim Taylor (14th). Mark Dismore could only qualify 32nd and will have to go through the qualifier race.
Activities for the Tecumseh 300 begin on Saturday with the on track fan autograph session at 6 p.m. Pre-race ceremonies start at 7:15 pm, with the Tecumseh 300 taking the green flag at 8 pm (local).
