Nazareth, PA - Sunday's Econo Lodge 200 NASCAR Busch
Series
race will make history for the Green family when two of the brothers,
David,
the oldest, and Jeff, the youngest, start on the front row for the first
time
in their careers. David and Mark, the middle Green brother, accomplished
the
feat in 1996 at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
"Mark and I started in the front row together in Myrtle Beach in 1996," remembers David. "Now I know how he felt, since Jeff knocked me off the pole."
David qualified his No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo second fastest with a time of 27.299 seconds (131.873 mph), while Jeff grabbed the pole with a time of 27.190 seconds (132.402 mph).
"At Nazareth it helps to have a friend next to you at the start, because turn one isn't the friendliest when you are on the outside," said David, the elder Green. "Who better to be there than your brother?"
Prior to the weekend, David was the only driver to have the pole at Nazareth in consecutive years (1995 and 1996). Now, the two brothers have yet another thing in common as Jeff will start from the pole for the second year in a row.
David's starting record at Nazareth is outstanding with five top five starts in six races at the one mile oval, including two poles. His finishing record is just as impressive with five consecutive top five finishes
"When we unloaded the car, we weren't good at all," said the 1994 Busch Series Champion. "We got the car where it is capable of running and backed that up with a good qualifying run, so I am really happy with the way our day turned out."
The Econo Lodge 200 is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcasted live on ESPN.
