Aaron Justus and Marc-Antoine Camirand continued their mastery in the United States Formula 2000 National Championship presented by Speedvision over the weekend, winning the two 48-mile (12-lap) races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc.
Justus, of Crestline, Calif., and Camirand, of Trois Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, have now won all but one Formula 2000 race this season, Justus scoring his third of 2000 Saturday and Camirand notching his second of the year Sunday on the twisting 4-mile road course.
Justus emerged from the weekend with a 43-point lead over Camirand in the new series standings going into the July 29 race in Camirand's hometown of Trois Rivieres.
Justus led all 12 laps of Saturday's race to win in dominating fashion in his Forsythe/Indeck Racing/Torco Van Diemen Ford. Camirand, trying to pass him for the lead on lap four, spun off Canada corner, ending his bid. Justus was trailed at the checkered flag by Memo Rojas, Jr., Jeff Harrison, Ian Lacy and Bryce Miller.
Camirand returned to lead all 12 laps of Sunday's race in the rain in his Key Motorsport Van Diemen Ford. James Hanson finished second ahead of Rojas, Lacy and Arie Luyendyk, Jr.
ACC Class champions in the two races were David Mayhew of Atascadero, Calif. for his 11th-place finish on Saturday and Scott Rubenzer of Brookfield, Wisc., who posted the fastest lap of Sunday's race enroute to a seventh-place finish.
