SEBRING TEST: DAY TWO NOTES

SEBRING, Fla. (Sunday, July 9, 2000) Two-time CART FedEx Championship Series champion Alex Zanardi concluded two days of testing today in the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard. He put in 143 laps for a total of 246 miles of testing during the two days, recording a fast lap of 53.5 seconds around the 1.72-mile Sebring International Raceway road course test track. Zanardi ended a lengthy hiatus with this weekends test session, a hiatus that began with his departure from the Williams Formula One team. The Italian native and Monte Carlo resident finally agreed to come put the car through its paces for team owner Morris Nunn, who was his engineer during his three-year run at Target/Chip Ganassi Racing, which featured the 1997 and 1998 series championships.

Regular Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing driver Tony Kanaan is recovering from injuries sustained in Detroit three weekends ago and is hoping to be back in time for the July 23 Michigan 500. Kanaan, who is rehabilitating from his injuries in both Indianapolis and near his Miami home, was on hand for the two days of testing this weekend.

The season continues next weekend (July 14-16) with the Molson Indy Toronto, Round 10 of 20 on the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series. Bryan Herta will sit in for Kanaan for the third consecutive race. He was 16th at Portland (June 25) and ninth at Cleveland (July 2) in his first two events since Kanaan was injured during a final qualifying run at Detroit (June 17).

Further details, as well as comments from Morris Nunn and Alex Zanardi, are forthcoming.

Nunn and Zanardi continued to be engaged at the racetrack in post-testing debrief sessions as of 8 p.m. EDT.
