Sauter Latest Winner in ASA ACDelco Series Heading to Chicago

PENDLETON, Ind. Four past series champions and one veteran hold the top five spots in the ASA ACDelco Series National point Standings heading into the seasons ninth event at Chicago Motor Speedway on July 16 with 1998 National Champion Gary St. Amant holding a 131-point lead over 1999 Champion Tim Sauter.

St. Amant collected his sixth top-five finish in eight races and remained the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series National Points leader following the June 24 running of the Missouri 300 presented by Jani-King at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo., which was won by Sauter. His third place finish along with a consistent early season, including a win at the season-opening event in Florida, has allowed St. Amant to remain in the top spot in points from the start of the season with second place changing hands several times.

Veteran Mike Miller, who finished second to Sauter in the points chase in 1999, moved up to third place as result of his fourth top-five finish of 2000, which included a win at Montgomery Motor Speedway. He sits 155 points behind the points leader St. Amant.

1997 ASA Champion Kevin Cywinski fell from second in the points down to fourth after an 11th- place finish at I-70. Cywinski held the second spot in points for several races but has fallen back after a couple of disappointing races. He trails St. Amant by 177 heading to Chicago. Three-time Champion Butch Miller (1987, 88, 94) holds down fifth place in points prior to the USAMeats.com 200 at Chicago, 204 points back of St. Amant.

Joey Clanton holds on to a narrow point lead in the chase for Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year award over two-time race winner Scott Wimmer. Clanton, who sits 10th overall in points, is only eight points ahead of Wimmer. Clanton has a 77-point lead over Robbie Pyle, who sits third in rookie points. Mark Dismore and Larry Foyt round out the top-five in rookie points.
