When the green flag dropped Saturday, Morter was out in front for the 15,000 fans to see as she flew over the two jumps in the front stretch. Followed close behind by Steve Federico, points leader of the class, Morter couldn't hold onto her lead and continued to fall back in the pack due to engine troubles.
"It felt great to come out of the hole at Crandon in the lead again," said Morter. "My car has the potential to win, we just need to get some bugs worked out. Jumping into a new class requires going through a whole new learning curve, but I am confident that I can take this car to the winner's circle."
After pulling the wounded engine out Saturday night and replacing it with a spare, Morter pulled up to the starting grid on Sunday ready to go. But a five-car pile up on the first corner bent the front right wheel on Morter's car, even though she continued to race and gain positions. Mid-way through the seven-lap race, the tire flew off leaving the #333 Golin/Harris Motorsports car with only three wheels, putting an end to round 4 and a promising yet trouble-plagued weekend for Morter.
"Off-road racing is a contact sport, there is a lot of bumping and grinding going on which takes its toll on your race car," said Morter. "The key to this kind of racing is staying out of trouble and having the equipment that will withstand the harsh elements we race in. My team is working hard to provide me with the perfect vehicle to race, my job is to make it to the finish line, preferably first."
