Veteran Will Drive #4 Automotive Promotions Car

HOLLAND, Mich.--Automotive Promotions Inc. has announced it reached an agreement with ASA ACDelco Series veteran driver Glenn Allen Jr. to pilot the number 4 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Pontiac beginning at the July 16 USAMeats.com 200 event at Chicago Motor Speedway. Current plans call for Allen to drive the car at Salem Speedway for the July 22 Tecumseh 300.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has spent the past several years running in the Busch Grand National Series since leaving ASA in 1996. In his 1995 ASA season, Allen finished second in points to Bryan Reffner and collected one of his six career ASA wins. His first ASA win came at his home track, Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway in 1991.

"I am excited to be back and involved with ASA," said the 29-year-old Allen. "I feel like Bud Gebben is a great car owner and they have great equipment. And to be a teammate with Gary St. Amant is a unique opportunity. We go way back and he helped me get involved in racing."

Allen will team with 1998 ASA National Champion and current ACDelco Series points leader St. Amant, the primary driver out of the API stables. The number 4 car was driven through the first six races by Teri MacDonald-Cadieux. Derrick Gilchrist was tabbed to pilot the car at Hawkeye Downs Speedway and I-70 Speedway, bringing it home seventh and sixth respectively.

"ASA races now are bigger and better than ever," said Allen. "The talent is a lot better, the equipment is a lot better, it is going to be a tough deal for me. We have our work cut out for us.

"I tested the car for Bud when Teri drove. I think the motors ran super and had no problems. It should make it a lot tougher. And with the experience I have on radial tires already, hopefully that will keep us one step up."

Allen began his racing career at the age of 12 on motorcycles. After breaking his leg, he decided to get into full-bodied stock cars, with ASA on the horizon. He made his ASA debut in 1987 at the age of 16. After eight full-time seasons in ASA, Allen left in 1996 after three races and drove in the Busch Series, where he won Rookie of the Year honors.
