PENDLETON, Ind.--American Speed Association veteran Joe
Nott and the Sharp Racing Team have announced that they will field a team
for the remainder of the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series with A&A Manufacturing as
primary sponsor. The team, based in Concord, N.C., will make its debut
during the USAMeats.com 200 at Chicago Motor Speedway on July 16.
"From an outsider looking in at the ASA series, I can see how much it has grown, how much popularity has come back," said the 27-year-old Nott. "I have ventured out and done some speedway racing and been successful, but I looked back at ASA and saw how much fun everyone was having after I visited a couple of races and really decided that ASA is where I want to be."
Nott will return to the series in the number 48 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Car owner Eddie Sharp will also serve as crew chief. The team members from Sharps ARCA team will serve the same duties on the ASA team, including veteran crew member Duke Zink.
"The new motor and tire program really excites me because it levels out the field and gives the rookies a chance at running up with the veterans," said Nott. "It is a good experience for everybody. Hopefully with the radial tire experience I have already, it will help me not have as much of a learning curve as some of the other drivers did at the beginning of the year."
The Lima, Ohio native started his ASA career in 1992 at the age of 19. In 1994, Nott was voted the "Most Improved Driver" at the annual National Awards Banquet. His only ASA ACDelco Series victory came in 1996 at Lancaseter Speedway in Buffalo, N.Y. With 126 starts to his credit, Nott has 23 top-five finishes, 38 top-10s and one pole. Nott spent 1999 and the beginning of 2000 driving in the Automobile Racing Club of America series.
