ODESSA, Missouri--Mike Garvey of Lakeville, Minn., driving the number 1 Tecumseh Chevrolet, posted the fastest time in qualifying at I-70 Speedway Friday afternoon to capture the pole for Saturdays American Speed Association (ASA) ACDelco Series Missouri 300 presented by Jani-King. Its the seventh pole of Garveys ASA career and the third during the 2000 season.

Garveys fastest qualifying lap on the .540-mile high-banked oval was 16.849 seconds (115.378 mph).

"I had an awesome car all day, it was fast off the trailer," Garvey said. "The track cooled down for qualifying and we made a tire pressure adjustment. It was the perfect move by my crew and chief Bond Suss."

Scott Hansen of Green Bay, WI, will start on the outside of the front row posting a time of 16.879 seconds in the Structural Transport Ford. It was Hansens best qualifying of the season and will put him outside of Garvey on the front row.

The defending race winner from 1999, Mike Miller of Georgia qualified third with I-70 Speedway champion Jeff Klem of Kansas City posting the fourth best time, followed by Robbie Pyle of Ohio.

"I was surprised by my qualifying lap, but I never had a sticker run (new tires) in practice. I finally had stickers for time and hit on it," said Klem. "I want to stay out of trouble and run with the leaders for the race."

John ONeal of Kansas City qualified twelfth and full-time ASA competitor Rick Beebe of Merriam, KS qualified fifteenth.

ASA officials canceled the scheduled 100-lap qualifier after three cars sustained damage during practice and were unable to make timed qualifying attempts. That brought the car count below 42, the minimum required number for the ASA qualifying race format to apply. Billy Deckman of Kansas City was one of the three drivers to miss out in qualifying because of a practice incident.

Activities for the Missouri 300 presented by Jani-King begin Saturday, June 23 with the on track fan autograph session at 6 p.m. Pre-race ceremonies start at 7:15 pm, with the Missouri 300 presented by Jani-King taking the green flag at 8 pm (local).
