David Green Quick Facts- In six starts at Watkins Glen International, David Green has one pole, three top five, four top 10 finishes to his credit and an average start of 10th.
- David Green is currently eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series point standings, 78 points out of seventh position.
DAVID GREEN AND THE AFG GLASS RACING TEAM ARE READY FOR ROAD RACING: David Green, who will make his seventh series start at the 2.45 mile Watkins Glen International road course in Sunday's Lysol 200 NASCAR Busch Series race, welcomes the change from racing on oval tracks.
"I love road course racing, especially at The Glen," said the driver of the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "It's different from our normal races and it's so much fun. When you go to a road course after running all the oval tracks, you take everything you do elsewhere and throw it out the window. "
All fun aside, Green knows the value of patience at Watkins Glen. The Owensboro, Kentucky native has a pair of fourth place finishes at Watkins Glen (06/25/94 and 06/28/98).
"You have to be patient yet aggressive to run up front," explains the 1994 Busch Series Champion. "You have to be aware of your transmission and focus on keeping your car on the race track."
The Chevrolet that Green will run in the Lysol 200 is new and was tested on June 13 at Carolina Motorsports Park, a 2.3 mile road course located in Kershaw, South Carolina.
"We gathered some valuable information testing this car," said Jay Guy, crew chief for the AFG Glass Racing team. "We have high expectations for Sunday."
Like Green, Guy is also no stranger to Watkins Glen's road course.
"I have been to Watkins Glen all but one year since the Winston Cup and Busch Series has been racing here regularly," said the Troy, Pennsylvania native. "I've worked with teams from both series."
Guy's experience coupled with the new No. 34 car he prepared should equal success for Green and the AFG Glass Racing team. ROCHESTER INULATED GLASS JOINS AFG GLASS RACING TEAM FOR LYSOL 200: Manchester, New York based, Rochester Insulated Glass, a glass fabricating company, joins AFG Glass and Cicci-Welliver Racing as an associate sponsor on the No. 34 car for Sunday's Lysol 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Watkins Glen International.
ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?: The NASCAR Busch Series could be in for its first dose of racing in the rain in Sunday's Lysol 200 at Watkins Glen International. Last season, the sanctioning body decided to continue competition in the event of inclement weather at the 2.45 mile road course. The cars are now equipped with windshield wipers and de-foggers. Goodyear has also developed a racing rain tire for the event.
David Green, driver of the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo, is also the only driver in the Lysol 200 who has experience racing a NASCAR race car in the rain, although he hopes he doesn't have to use it. The Owensboro, Kentucky native competed in the NASCAR Suzuka Thunder International on Suzuka Circuitland's 1.4 mile road course in Suzuka City, Japan in 1996 and 1997.
"The possibility of running a race in the rain sure makes things interesting," said Green. "During my second trip to Suzuka, we ran practice and qualifying in the rain. It was quite an experience. Hopefully, we won't see any raindrops at The Glen but if we do, I'm ready."
LYSOL 200 HELD IN CICCI-WELLIVER RACING'S BACK YARD: Sunday's Lysol 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Watkins Glen International is a special race for Frank Cicci, and Scott and Jeff Welliver, owners of Cicci-Welliver Racing and the No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo. With all three born, raised and still residing in Elmira, New York, just 22 miles from Watkins Glen, they consider the 2.45 mile road course their home track.
"Watkins Glen is our home track and we have high expectations when we run here," said Cicci. "We always make a special effort to prepare for this race."
The Cicci-Welliver Racing team has enjoyed much success at Watkins Glen, including a victory in 1997. In 1998, the team came away with two top five finishes (No. 34 - 2nd and No. 36 - 4th).
"We have always had great finishes at The Glen," recalls Cicci. "We almost always finish in the top five."
David Green, driver of Cicci-Welliver's No. 34 AFG Glass Chevrolet shares in his team owners' excitement about racing at the team's home track.
"I love racing at Watkins Glen and with our car owners living in Elmira, racing here is even more special," said the 1994 Busch Series Champion. "It would be great if we could have another run like we did in 1998 when I finished fourth driving for Cicci-Welliver."
