NASCAR BGN: Jeff Green Quik Facts, Watkins Glen International

Halfway Home: Jeff Green, current points leader and driver of the No. 10 Nestl NesQuik Chevrolet on the NASCAR Busch Series, is right on target for the goals he and his NesQuik Racing team set at the beginning of the season.

"Our goals for the NesQuik Racing team at the beginning of the season were to win six races and win the championship," said Green. "We just passed the halfway point and we have won three races and are leading the points, so we are halfway there. Our team knows that if we keep winning races and running up front, the points will take care of themselves. This season has been a dream season for us. We're accomplishing all our goals and having fun doing it. You can't ask for much more!"

Key to Success At Watkins Glen: Green shares his thoughts on how to be successful on the 2.45-mile road course.

"You have to be smooth in order to win at Watkins Glen," said Green. "The most important thing is getting your rhythm and taking care of your equipment. If you try to overdrive the car, you'll end up breaking stuff and you can't get to victorylane that way."

Last Year at Watkins Glen: Green was on his way to a top-five finish in last year's Lysol 200, but experienced a mechanical failure. "Last year we were running fourth, going for third, with 27 laps to go and we broke a clutch," said Green. "We had been on a streak posting six top-10 finishes in a row, but ended up finishing 40th that day. I hate finishing bad, but we running in the top-five when it broke."

Lifetime of Experience: Green's name may not come to mind when you think of a seasoned road course racer, but many are not aware of his experience.

"I really enjoy racing the road courses," said Green. "I think it is because I grew up racing go karts and we raced on street circuits where you are constantly turning left and right all day long, just like the road courses. I started racing go karts when I was eight years old, so I have many years under my belt doing that type of racing. The biggest thing I had to learn in the transition to stock cars was shifting, because we didn't have to do that in go karts. I have always run well at Watkins Glen in a Busch car, despite breaking a clutch last year, so I feel we are capable of coming out of there with a top-five finish."

Road Course Education: In addition to his years racing go karts, Green participated in the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in 1997 to sharpen his road course racing skills.

Equipment: The NesQuik Racing team is taking the same car to Watkins Glen that Green raced there last year.

"This is a pretty special car to me," said Green. "ppc Racing does not own this car, I do. This car was a present from Gary Bechtel when I drove for him at Diamond Ridge Motorsports. This is the same car I won my first Busch Series race at Las Vegas with. I have to say that it is the best trophy I've gotten in my career so far!"
