Zero Tolerance Policy Cited For Dismissal
PENDLETON, Ind.- LaFavre Racing Teams announced on Monday that rookie Johnny Sauter has been released as driver of the #01 LaFavre Racing Teams Chevrolet Monte Carlo, effectively immediately. The decision was announced following the teams participation in the ASA ACDelco Series event at Louisville Motor Speedway Saturday, June 10. Sauter finished fourth in the ACDelco Service Specialists 300, but was later disqualified when his car failed to pass post-race technical inspection.
LaFavre Racing Teams has a zero tolerance policy in terms of presenting a race car for competition that is not within the guidelines of the ASA Rulebook, said team owner Scott LaFavre. Based upon the fact that Johnny Sauter was an integral part in construction of the #01 car, as well as being the driver of record, I had no choice but to release him from his duties at LaFavre Racing Teams.
One of the pre-season favorites for rookie of the year, Sauter had a disappointing start to the 2000 campaign, finishing outside the top-25 in the first three events, including two DNFs. Sauter, who is son to ASA veteran Jim and brother to Tim and Jay, started to turn his season around at Montgomery Motor Speedway, where he finished 15th. His best finish of the season was an eighth-place at Nashville Speedway USA.
LaFavre indicated that the team would remain in tact in terms of crew members and equipment. LaFavre also indicated that the team is interested in fielding the car for a potential 2001 ASA rookie candidate and running a limited schedule for the remainder of the 2000 season in preparation for the Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year campaign.
