HARRISBURG, N.C.-- Holley Performance Products, manufacturer of performance-enhancing products for automotive engines, continues their involvement in the sport of karting with the formation of the Holley International Race of Karting Champions (IROKC) Series.
Patterned after the IROC Series of NASCAR and IRL, the IROKC series will showcase eight of the top speedway kart drivers in the World Karting Association (WKA) from the 1999 season. The four-race series will run two races on 1/5-mile dirt oval tracks and two races on 1/5-mile asphalt oval tracks, awarding more than $8,000 in prize money. The drivers are selected from the National Speedway Series, a combination of the Briggs and Stratton National Dirt Series and the Bandit Racing Chassis Speedway Pavement Series.
"The WKA has the ability to reach, support and promote young performance enthusiasts," said Holley Chief Operating Officer Jim Vance. "This enables Holley to aid and support the continued growth of karting and the needs of the industry. Where there is racing and racers, that's where we want to be."
"Selecting the top drivers was very difficult," said WKA President Randy Kugler. "There is a tremendous amount of talent in speedway karting -- Holley is providing us the chance to reward some of that talent."
Holley Performance Products is headquartered in Bowling Green, Ky., and manufacturers a wide range of products under the Holley, Annihilator, Earl's, FlowTech, Hooker, Lunati, NOS and Weiand brand names. The nearly 100-year-old company has more than 1,400 employees in the United States and Mexico.
The World Karting Association is a member-owned corporation founded in 1971 to regulate and promote the family sport of competitive kart racing and provide a safe and fair environment for the fulfillment of racing dreams. Learn more about the WKA at www.worldkarting.com.
