FORT WORTH, Texas- The Casino Magic 500 was postponed until 1 p.m. (EDT) Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway due to persistent rain Saturday, Indy Racing League and Texas Motor Speedway officials announced.
ESPN2 and the Indy Racing Radio Network will broadcast the race live Sunday. I dont think it changes anything, driver Billy Boat said. It doesnt affect us much. Theres nothing worse than being at a racetrack when were all ready to go, and its raining. Youve just got to roll with it.
A 30-minute final practice will start at 10 a.m. (EDT).
It was the second consecutive day that rain disrupted the schedule. MBNA Pole Qualifying was rained out Friday. The starting lineup was set by current Indy Racing Northern Light Series entrant points, with Buddy Lazier on the pole and Robbie Buhl on the outside of the front row.
This is only the second event in Indy Racing League history postponed at least one day by rain. The other was the 1997 Indianapolis 500, delayed two days.
Its kind of fun with all this rain and gives me a good opportunity to talk and hang out with my guys, said defending event winner Scott Goodyear. And I really dont have much to complain about. Its nothing like 1997 at the Indianapolis 500 where we had the cars on the grid every day only to have the race canceled on Sunday, canceled on Monday with only 20 laps in, and then the race finally happening on Tuesday.
Tickets for the Casino Magic 500 are available by calling (817) 215-8500, through Ticketmaster outlets in Texas by calling (214) 373-8000 or (972) 647-5700. Tickets also are available online at www.ticketmaster.com .
