Round 6 of 20 on the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series
At The Milwaukee Mile West Allis, Wis.
Tony Kanaan brought his #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard home in 10th place in todays rain-delayed Miller Lite 225 at the Milwaukee Mile on the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. He qualified 11th Saturday and had to wait through day-long rain that forced the postponement of yesterdays originally scheduled race until today before recording his third top-10 finish in six events this season. Kanaan was 10th at the season-opener at Homestead, Fla., and eighth at Nazareth, Pa., two weekends ago in a race that was postponed by snow from its originally schedule date in early April. Polesitter Juan Montoya scored the victory today, the first CART victory for Toyota.
The next stop on the 20-race CART FedEx Championship Series is Round 7, the Tenneco Grand Prix of Detroit, set for June 18.
TONY KANAAN
"Overall, it was a great effort by the whole Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing crew. Once again, Morris and the team gave me a solid race car. Thats been the case all year. It was a frustrating day, though, because it was very tough going in traffic with our new (CART-mandated) wing configuration. That was the same for everybody as there was very little passing out there on the racetrack. I had good balance at the very start, but by the first pit stop, the wind had changed and thats when I really started having trouble in traffic. We took out three turns of front wing and that helped, especially when I was running all by myself. But in traffic, there just wasnt getting around anybody. You get behind other cars and the car gets very light, so you cant put your foot in the throttle coming out of the turn. Its frustrating. Overall, I think were getting stronger all the time. The team made great pit stops both times. Weve gained some experience, and now we head into the road course portion of the season. Mercedes has come up with some new things for us, there, so Im really looking forward to it."
MORRIS NUNN
"It was another solid effort by the whole team, our second in a row. Were showing improvement in our pit stops, which is very important because it is so very competitive out there on the racetrack. We finished on the lead lap and scored points once again. Overall, it was another step forward for this still very new team."
