* Kyle Petty, who did not qualify for tomorrow's MBNA Platinum 400 at Dover Downs in the No. 44 Hot Wheels Pontiac, will serve as a relief driver for his Petty Enterprises teammate John Andretti, who is continuing to recuperate from a rib injury sustained last weekend during Winston Cup practice at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

GREG STEADMAN, CREW CHIEF, NO. 43 STP/CHEERIOS PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:

(ON DECIDING TO USE KYLE IN RELIEF) "We hadn't planned on it. It's just something that happened. It's a shame that he missed the race, but he's really good here."

(ON MODIFYING THE CAR TO ADJUST TO THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KYLE AND JOHN) "It's not too bad. It's just that we had limited time here. We had however long it took to run the Busch race. That's all the time we had to change the seat and get everything the best we could."

(WHO MADE THE FINAL DECISION?) "Kyle did. It was up to him. We told him we wanted him to drive, but it was obviously his decision."
