Sauter Latest Winner in ASA ACDelco Series at Nashville

PENDLETON, Ind.--Columbus, Ohios Gary St. Amant collected his third-straight runner-up finish and remained the 2000 ASA National Points leader following the May 21st running of the BFGoodrich Tires 300 at Nashville Speedway USA in Nashville, Tenn. Tim Sauter picked up his first win of the season heading into the sixth event, the June 10th ACDelco Service Specialist 300 at Louisville Motor Speedway in Louisville, Ky.

St. Amant, who has finished no worse than fifth in 2000 including a win at the season-opening event in Florida, extended his point lead over second place Kevin Cywinski to 108 points. St. Amant and Cywinski are the only two competitors to have completed all 1,400 laps run in competition through the first five events. After his third-place run at Nashville, Cywinski regained second place in the points, which he held until the race at Hickory Motor Speedway.

California native Brandon Sperling continued his strong season by recording his third top-10 finish at Nashville. The run keeps Sperling third in the points, 132 back of St. Amant. Veteran Mike Miller kept his fourth-place position locked in the point standings, 139 points behind St. Amant. Miller, who finished only six points back from winning the title last season, has two top-five finishes this year, including a victory at Montgomery Speedway. Sauter rounds out the top-five in points, 145 back of St. Amant.

Scott Wimmer kept his rookie point lead over Mark E. Dismore after Nashville, leading by 87 points in the race for the $50,000 Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year honors. Wimmer, who earlier became the first rookie since 1996 to win back-to-back races (Lanier National Speedway and Hickory), has made only four starts after missing the Lakeland event. Joey Clanton sits third in the rookie points, with Robbie Pyle and Chad Wood rounding out the top five among first-year competitors.
