USAC: 'NAPA Hawkeye Hundred' this weekend at Knoxville Raceway

RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF FOYT'S "HULMAN-HOOSIER HUNDRED"

The inaugural "NAPA Hawkeye Hundred" will unfold this weekend at the Knoxville (IA) Raceway, round six of this year's USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Championship. A 100-lap feature event concludes Saturday night's activities at the 1/2-mile dirt track after Friday night prelims.

A.J. Foyt's True Value "Hulman-Hoosier Hundred" has been rescheduled for Friday night, September 22 after rains forced postponement of last Friday night's scheduled race at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. The new date is the Friday night before the United States Grand Prix, which is scheduled for September 24 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. is anxious to return to Iowa as the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series point leader. His trip to the Hawkeye State May 12 produced a nationally-televised victory in the 30-lap Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car race at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids and this weekend's Knoxville event is also slated for coverage by ESPN2. The race will air at 9:30 pm (ET) on Sunday, June 4.

Tyler leads Tracy Hines by 13 points with 66 available at Knoxville. Friday's timetable calls for practice from 6-7 pm and qualifying at 7:30 A 20-lap "qualifying race" gets under way at 9:30 pm. Following Saturday's National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Induction Banquet at noon, the Coors Light Silver Bullet machines will practice from 6-6:30 and have a final "hot lap" session from 8:30-8:45 before the green flag waves for the "NAPA Hawkeye Hundred" at 9:30.

Friday's events include the Goodyear Masters Classic 360 c.i. winged sprint car event for drivers age 50 and older and Saturday's events include 410 c.i. winged sprint car racing.

Included among the 40 pre-race entries is East coast bid-block modified star Brett Hearn of Vernon, N.J. driving the Stanton Racing Mopar-powered entry, making his series debut after being rained out at Indianapolis Friday. Hearn is a five-time Syracuse 300 and six-time Skoal Super DIRT Series Champion and has accumulated over 500 feature wins in his 24-year dirt modified stock car career. Stanton Racing won the 1994 and 1996 USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Championships.

Pre-race entries also include Ryan Newman, Tony Elliott and Kasey Kahne, all winners of USAC feature events in racing action last week.
