The men in yellow and black had the their sites set on improving on the final day of qualifying. Jeg and Troy Coughlin started the day resting in the No. 8 and No. 10 respectfully.
Troy continued his trend of improving during the third qualifying session. He ran a 7.019 at 196.03 mph to land in the No. 4 position.
"We are making positive moves that are improving our set up," commented Troy. "We have avoided making drastic changes. I believe that this has helped us more than hurt us."
Jeg also improved his qualifying time for the third time in three qualifying sessions. He ran a 7.035 at 195.73 mph. Jeg remained in the No. 8 slot.
"We were not satisfied with our run during the third session. Our 60-foot time killed us down track," noted Jeg. "We decided as a team to change engines for the final qualifying session."
Troy and his Jeg's Mail Order Olds ran a 7.024 at 196.37 mph. He moved to the No. 6 position.
Jeg was looking to improve during the final session. He ran a 7.038 at 196.07 mph, which was not an improvement. Jeg landed in the No. 11 spot.
Round one will put the Coughlin Pro Stock duo head-to-head. "This isn't what we had in mind when we started our weekend. But when you run two competitive cars in the same class this is bound to happen throughout a 23 race season," noted Jeg about running his team car and brother. "It is just part of racing!"
"Our mentality as a team is to race our own race every time we go down the track. To us it doesn't matter who is in the other lane. The job that both of us have is to get lane choice for the next round," commented Troy. "We know that we will have a yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Olds Cutlass in the second round, which is the positive side of our first round match up."
