As the PGA invades Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio for the Memorial Tournament Jeg and Troy Coughlin can see the similarities between winning the prestigious Memorial Tournament and winning the NHRA Winston Championship.
"Winning a golf tournament is a lot like winning the NHRA Championship. Every hole is a race within a season," commented Jeg. "You can't expect to win the tournament if you don't score well on every hole. If you remain focused and pick up birdies you put yourself in a position to win."
"You have to treat each hole separately while continuing to look at the big picture. At the same time you can't spend anytime wondering what could have been," explained Troy. "You have to put yourself in the position to make things happen."
The fast moving NHRA will invade Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX for the 4th Annual Castrol Nationals. Texas Motorplex historically has provided the NHRA with a great racing surface. If the weather conditions are right fans will be in store for quick side-by-side racing.
Jeg Coughlin, Jr. still remains the man to beat. He is leading the Pro Stock class in the NHRA Winston Championship by 293 points. Jeg has won six of the seven events that have been run so far this season. Most recently Jeg qualified No. 1 for the Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals with a 6.822, which tied the National et record. Rain ultimately postponed the event to September 8-9th.
"It was a shame that we did not get a chance to run the race last weekend. We will return to Englishtown in September as strong as we left," commented Jeg. "We have put our best foot forward to focus on winning in Dallas."
Troy Coughlin continues to show strength behind the wheel of his JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass. Troy ran a career best 6.847 to land in the No. 4 spot when the NHRA returns to Englishtown. Troy is currently resting in the No. 5 spot with 382 points. He is a mere four points from taking over the No. 4 position.
"Our program has a lot of momentum right now," said Troy. "We need to keep focused and treat each race like it is the first race of the season."
