NASCAR WCUP: Adam Petty dies in crash at New Hampshire

13 May 2000

The Auto Channel was deeply saddened to learn of Adam Petty's death earlier today during a practice run at New Hampshire International Speedway. Adam is the son of NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and grandson of Richard Petty.

The 19-year-old driver crashed shortly after noon EDT during practice for this afternoon's qualifying in the Busch Grand National Series. He was rushed to Concord Hospital by ambulance, but died of head trauma at the hospital, said spokeswoman Jennifer Dearborn.

Adam was a fine young man, filled with humor and a good heart. We were honored to have met him and spend time with him during various racing related events.

The following are links to some of the video interviews we did over the last couple of years with Adam. We hope you will enjoy watching them and remembering - or getting to know - Adam Petty.

In January, THE AUTO CHANNEL had the opportunity to cover the Busch Preview and in Charlotte and talk with Adam about the forthcoming season. That interview can be found at:

While at Talladega last year we did this interview with Adam:

In June 1999, Joe Moore, host of the Raceline television show, featured this interview with Adam:
